Jerusalem Church
~30 AD
The original community of followers — Torah-observant Galileans, Judeans, and diaspora Israelites who follow Yeshua and understand his resurrection as the beginning of the general resurrection promised in the Hebrew prophets. Led first by Peter (a Galilean fisherman from Bethsaida), then by James the brother of Jesus. They attend the Temple, observe Israelite covenant law, and practice circumcision. The Jerusalem community is the earliest — but its theological authority was actively contested by Paul (Galatians 2:6), and most Gentile Christianity derives from the Pauline-Antiochene mission rather than directly from Jerusalem.
