God-Fearers / Sebomenoi (Yahweh Converts)
God-fearers, called sebomenoi or theosebeis in Greek sources, were Gentile adherents of Israel’s God who joined synagogue circles without full covenant conversion. They appear in inscriptions, civic contexts, and early mission narratives across the eastern Mediterranean. Their participation could include prayer, patronage, moral alignment, Sabbath interest, and rejection of local cult worship.
This stream is important because it shows the attraction of Yahweh worship beyond ethnic Israel before the 70 AD rupture. God-fearers formed a bridge population in port cities and Hellenistic urban centers. The map connects them toward the Hellenistic early Jesus-movement stream because that is where many such adherents become historically visible in the first century.
